Putting all that energy to good use

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Jude is a busy little boy so I try to harness his energy into something productive. This morning he helped me, with much enthusiasm, do the laundry. It was nice to have an extra pair of hands helping out even though he needed supervision and direction. It sure is nice to sit my giant pregnant self down while he does all the manual labor.  ahhh nothing like free child labor.

Wendy's Berry Almond Chicken Salad Review + Giveaway

Monday, May 30, 2011

On Saturday we had the pleasure of joining a group of local bloggers at Wendy's for lunch to try out their new Berry Almond Chicken Salad. I love salads with berries so I was super excited to try it out.

The Berry Almond Chicken Salad features fresh, blueberries, strawberries, roasted almonds, shaved Asiago cheese and warm grilled chicken all on a bed of 11 types of freshly chopped field greens. To top it off a fat-free raspberry vinaigrette dressing is included. I really enjoyed the salad and was pleased with how fresh it was, especially for a fast food salad.

The Berry Almond Chicken Salad is available at participating locations in entree and half size portions starting at $3.89. I really like that you can get the Berry Almond Chicken Salad as part of the Wendy's Pair 2 combos, that way I could get a small salad and a baked potato.

Stackermallows Review + Giveaway

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Jude loves marshmallows. On our old house he used to climb the cabinets just to reach the marshmallows we'd hidden on the top shelf. With summer quickly approaching I really hope we get the chance to let him try a S'more for the first time. I know he loves each of the ingredients individually so I'm sure his little mind would be completely blown by a S'more.
I'm excited to use the NEW KRAFT JET-PUFFED STACKERMALLOWS Marshmallows.
What makes Stackermallows great?
  • Stackermallows offer a unique twist on the classic marshmallow—featuring a thinner, rectangular shape perfect for stacking on a graham cracker
  • You can make S'mores in just seconds in the microwave, in the toaster oven or on the grill—without the gooey mess.
  • They are ideal for layering on your favorite desserts like brownies and sweet potatoes.
  • You can use them in recipes year-round indoors or outdoors, inspiring more moments to enjoy them with your kids.
Stackermallows will be available in late May at your local Walmart or Target.

God Told Me To Break Up With You

Friday, May 27, 2011

I've been fortunate enough to have only a handful of relationship before I met and married Joe. I think because I've been around enough people in crazy relationships I've always been a little cautious before jumping head first into them. Growing up in a Christian family with Christian friends I can't tell you how many times I've heard young people use the excuse, "God told me to break up with you." While I'm pretty sure it's not totally a lie, it probably should be clarified that maybe God told them to not date the person in the first place. I mean when you're 13 years old most people don't find their true love, the person they are going to marry. (Although many 13 year olds believe they have found, "the one") Sometimes I feel bad that God gets blamed for so much stupidity on the part of selfish people.

On Childrens Hospital, Dr. Owen Maestro’s ex- girlfriend/co-worker lied by telling him she had a tumor just to break up with him. What is the craziest break-up excuse you've heard?

Tune-in for "Childrens Hospital" on the Cartoon Network.

I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote Childrens Hospital Season 1&2 on DVD. You can purchase a copy here: AMAZON .

Pampers 50th Anniversary - Miracle Mission - Giveaway

Thursday, May 26, 2011

Lieb Baby 2 is due any day now and one of the things I was so thankful for after Jude was born were the numerous friends and family members that organized a month of meals to be delivered to us. It was such a relief to not worry with cooking dinner so we could focus on becoming new parents and bonding with our baby. I am so thrilled that we still have such great community around us for baby 2 but realize not everyone is as blessed as us.
I love to help organize, prepare and deliver meals to new parents. It's one of the small, but extremely helpful tasks that almost anyone can do to help support families. We have many friends expecting within the next few months and I plan to pay-it-forward by providing them with home-cooked meals after their baby is born.

In celebration of its 50th birthday, Pampers is recognizing how much parenting has changed over the years, and is sharing their belief that every baby is a little miracle that deserves to be celebrated, supported and protected, by unveiling its Little Miracle Mission campaign – a program that delivers acts of kindness to miracles and their families while encouraging parents to support others.

The brand recently kicked off the Little Miracle Missions campaign by delivering a giant act of support –donating care packages to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) across the country.

To participate you can ‘like’ Pampers on Facebook and then go to the Miracle Missions tab and commit to Mission 2 by clicking “I Want To Pledge.”  Once more than 4,000 people pledge, Pampers will respond by giving Father's Day Cookouts to dads and babies across the country. The mission is to help give dads the time he and his baby deserve to bond. As it's so critical to his baby's development. Just by running some of his errands, covering his late meeting at work or helping him out with some chores at home can make room for some precious quality time with his little miracle. Pick one or one of your own and tell us how it goes.

Additionally, anyone who pledges is automatically entered to win a year’s supply worth of Pampers diapers and wipes.

Pregnancy Update: 39 Weeks

I'm 39 weeks pregnant!
Can you believe that? Time flies and yet I feel like I've been pregnant forever.
Overall, I feel pretty good most of the time, huge but good.
Notice all of my shirts are too short. I do NOT like my underbelly being exposed.

Today I had my 39 week check up with the midwife and things are looking pretty good.

Baby 2 is measuring about 40 weeks.
He's getting lower but not in birth position yet.
The midwives think he'll be a little late. (I'm hoping he's closer to on-time.)
All of my stats are great except for.... my glucose. :(

I haven't been diagnosed with gestational diabetes but my glucose levels were pretty high today so I have to monitor them for a little while, adjust my diet and exercise more. (We don't want an 11lb baby) I like to think we eat fairly healthy and I'm pretty active (chasing Jude around all day) but I want to make every effort to help keep this little guy healthy so I'm cutting back on sugars and simple carbs and will be going on a short walk every day.

I would love any advice from people who have experience with gestational diabetes, especially in the food department. What kind of meals did you prepare for your family?

Last Minute Date Night with Pirates

May has been a busy month. Mother's Day, my birthday, Joe's birthday, Baby 2 due any day, Joe working 6 days a week, visiting family, finishing unpacking... the list goes on. Somehow we've managed to fit in a few date night this month which is a few more than most months. I figure with baby 2 coming soon we needed to fit in a few nights out since we'll be spending a lot of time at home.
Last week, thanks to my mom and Disney we were able to slip out and enjoy an evening at the movies, a rarity for us. We saw a pre-release showing of Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. We'd seen the first 3 movies in the theater and really want to see this one but didn't think we'd get the chance.

I was super excited because I really enjoyed the other movies and I especially love Johnny Depp. We saw the 3D version which was awkward at first, wearing those glasses, but after awhile it just seemed natural. Overall, the movie was a fun and entertaining film, which is pretty much what I expecting. I certainly liked it better than the 2nd and 3rd sequel but it still didn't compare to the 1st. (Sometimes the 1st is always the best, which is probably why they make, 2nd's, 3rd's and 4th's!)
Overall, it was a fun date night and I'm so glad we were able to get out for a last minute date night before baby 2 arrives.

Check out the trailer. It's playing in most theaters across the US right now, so go see it!

I received the free tickets to the film. The opinions expressed in this post are my own and not influenced by the company.

Kissaluvs Trainer Review + Giveaway

Jude is in potty training mode right now. It's been a slow going process for us and we've tried a variety of different tactics to help him transition but what it really comes down to is when he's ready. He's so close but it has to be on his timing. In the meantime, I still present the potty with enthusiasm and try to utilize as many tools as possible. Things like new potty training pants that help him notice when he's wet, like the Kissaluvs Trainer.

The Kissaluvs Trainer available in 2T (fits 20-32lbs) and 3T (fits 28-40 lbs). The adjustable design with 4 snap settings- adjust legs and waist openings as needed.I particularly love the designer printed flannel inner add a cute factor and helps create the 'wet' feeling for quicker transition. And since it's particularly convenient since he's slow to transition that it has a pocket opening to add absorbency when needed.

The Kissaluvs Trainer is available in 3 Colors with printed cotton flannel inside.

Retail Price: $14.95

Tangled Blu-ray and Tolly Tots Rapunzel Doll Review + Giveaway

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Aside from all the typical boy things like pirates, cars, tools and space ships Jude loves princesses. I totally get it princesses are awesome and fairy tales are for both boys and girls. The story usually involves some evil villain or dragon and of course a brave prince to save the day. So I wasn't surprised by his enthusiasm for Tangled and the Tolly Tots Toddler Rapunzel Doll we received.
We'd never seen Tangled but he immediately knew she was a princess and deserved special treatment. He popped in the Blu-ray and watched the entire film completely captivated by the story of Rapunzel. I'd heard a lot of good things about the movie but didn't really know too much other than it was the story of Rapunzel. It was a fun, music-filled movie with a wholesome story and a bit of humor for parents.

Tolly tots has created a fun line of Baby and Toddler Disney Princess Dolls, including Rapunzel. This sweet 15" doll is the perfect playtime companion with her long, luxurious hair. She comes with a tiara, hairbrush, mirror and shoes.

GNC Phenom Coconut Water Review

Coconut water is pretty popular right now because it is a fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie, super-hydrating, naturally rich in electrolytes drink. Coconut water is found in the cavity of the coconut you see when you crack one open. It differs from coconut milk or cream because coconut milk is made by boiling equal amounts of water and shredded coconut together until foamy, then straining, while coconut cream is made in a similar fashion but with a higher shredded coconut to water ratio.
New Phenom Coconut Water is the only coconut water fortified with GNC vitamins and minerals! This 100% natural coconut water, supercharged with GNC vitamins and electrolytes, is an excellent source of hydration with zero fat, added sugar, or cholesterol.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of coconut to begin with but Joe loves the stuff so I thought it would be right up his alley. We tried the the Pure, Pineapple and Blueberry Pomme flavors. The Pure flavor didn't smell very good and also didn't taste that great. The Pineapple and Blueberry Pomme flavors were better. Coconut water has a strange texture, it's kind of oily. I felt like I was drinking sun tan oil. The added flavors definitely made it more bearable to drink especially once you get past the texture.
I think Phenom is one of those products you drink out of necessity more than for the love of it. Because of it's many nutritional and hydrating qualities if you are an athlete, pregnant, elderly or suffer from medical conditions coconut water benefits can do you wonders, especially Phenom. Even though I don't love the taste I'm keeping it handy for when baby 2 makes his arrival so I can stay hydrated and nourished. Coconut water during pregnancy can help keep you healthy.

You can purchase Phenom Coconut Water online

Baby 2's Nursery Update

Monday, May 23, 2011

Less than 2 months ago the nursery looked like this when we first moved in. Now most of the house is unpacked and ready for Baby 2's arrival. There are a few small projects to be completed in the nursery but nothing that couldn't be done in a few hours if we just set our minds to it. Hopefully, this weekend will yield the completion of the nursery.

As you can see everything is set up and all the boxes are unpacked we just have to find homes for the last few items.
The crib was Jude's that I bought second hand, I like that it's white. (I still need some artwork above the crib.) Also, there is no overhead light in this room so we are hanging a fun pendant light in that corner.
The dresser we found on Craigslist. The changing pad was a yard sale find (cover and all) The owl prints are actually framed coasters from Kerry Beary's Etsy Shop.
This is another Craigslist find. I really wanted a glider when I had jude but didn't have the room or budget for one. I got this one used, only $20 and it perfectly matches everything.

I have some green black out shades that used to be in Jude's room that perfectly match our color scheme. I just need to get Joe to hang them.
This is the last area that has packed boxes. Mostly they are pictures that need to be hung elsewhere in the house or just put in the attic. I'm hoping to put a small bookshelf in that space. The two prints on the wall is this and this from carambatack etsy shop.

Hopefully, after this weekend the room will be completed and I will post updated pictures. So close....

2B Mom: Zutano Review + Giveaway

In a few short weeks we will have another little boy in our house. Baby 2 is set to arrive anytime now and while he will be using most of his big brother's hand-me-downs I think it's nice to get him a few new outfits that are all his own. I am particularly excited about his new Zutano Organic Billy Goat PJ Set. I think it may be one of the first things he wears after he is born.
I can't wait for fall so he can wear this adorable Chocolate Cozie Elf Onesie, it looks so warm and... well cozy.
I really love Zutano Organic because it features 100% certified organic cotton that conveys the company’s dedication to workmanship, creativity and global social responsibility. I mean tell me how cute is the Forest Friends line.

I think it's probably one of my favorite prints. “Forest Fun” captures adorable woodland characters romping through a darling pattern of trees and mushrooms Zutano has been making quality baby and children's clothing for over 20 years.

Blue State Red State Coffee Review

Who knew coffee could be so political?  Well, Blue State Red State is a coffee brand that allows you to give back to society and express yourself with every purchase. They offer 3 different brands, each of which donate proceeds of the profit to the corresponding political group.

The Red State Red brand donates 33% of profits to support Republican causes. Blue State Blue brand donates 33% of profits to support Democratic causes. And, the Blue State Red State brand donates 33% of profits to non-profit organizations. Blue State Red State has partnered with Larry’s Beans to offer you Fair Trade, Shade Grown and Organic coffee.
We were sent the Blue State Red State brand, Ramparts Roast which is a stronger blend – robust, deep and bold with a delightful smoky accent. Since Joe is the coffee expert here is his opinion:
Blue State Red State is a pretty neat idea, especially since people are more prone to buy stuff than to just hand out money.  The Rampart Roast is a very robust coffee, quite good at waking you up in the morning, and is also fair trade and organic.  I also like that profits from this particular blend go to non-partisan charities, since Republicans and Democrats may quite possibly have enough money already.
Like Blue State Red State on Facebook for special deals, information and more.

While I like one-sized diapers they tend to be way too big for a newborn baby. Baby 2 is due to arrive ANY. DAY. NOW. So we have all the diapers washed and ready for him. I tend to use prefolds and covers for newborn diapers just because newborns need to be change so frequently. However, it is nice to try a few different styles, especially those designed specifically for newborns.
The new Kissaluvs Newborn AIO is a super easy one-step system with a custom milled moisture wicking fleece inner and custom Leak-Free PUL outer. The umbilical snap down feature provides cord protection during initial weeks and the cleverly placed snaps allow it to fit from 5-15lbs.
I like that it's a All-in-One Diaper so there is no need to stuff tiny inserts. I am also very impressed with the way the top adjust to make room for the umbilical cord, not something you need for very long but it's a nice built in feature.
The Kissaluvs Newborn AIO is available in 4 Colors with contrasting inners and retails for $14.95.

A Father's Day Tradition in the Making

Saturday, May 21, 2011

Since our family is fairly young we are establishing holiday traditions as we go along. (Really, we are just winging it most of the time.) When you are a parent and live close to your extended family it sometimes makes holidays like Mother and Father Day difficult. But we have decided, just this year, that we are going to remove any obligations to go visit family and celebrate the fact that Joe and I are parents.
My fave pic of Joe and Jude
So for Father's Day this year, Joe will get to choose how he wants to spend the day. If he wants to go off and spend the day playing golf with his buddies (highly doubt that will happen since he's never played golf... ever) or if he wants to build blocks with the boys all day (highly likely), it's totally up to him.

Father's should be shown how much they are appreciated on Father's Day. And I think that starts with letting them choose, how they want to be celebrated. Of course, there will be a lot of food, presents and Father's Day Cards but Father's Day is all about Dad.

What are your Father's Day Traditions? Do you spend the day with extended family or just your immediate family? Does dad go off by himself of spend time with the kids?
