2B Mom: Reno Rose - Pirose Nursing Cover Review

Monday, February 28, 2011

I'm an on-the-go mom so being able to nurse my baby comfortably anywhere is important to me. While women have the right to breastfeed openly in most states I still like to maintain a little privacy. Some nursing covers can be big and cumbersome. The Reno Rose Pirose Nursing Cover is great because it gives to the privacy you need to feel comfortable nursing in public but also the stylish, lightweight design that makes it so simple.

I received the Gwendolyn for Nursing Pirose Nursing cover and it is beautiful. I love that you can wear the Pirose as a scarf to compliment your outfit and no one would ever know you use it as a nursing cover. The lightweight scarf-like fabric gives you and baby optimal comfort and breath ability. I know in the heat of summer the last thing I want to do is cover-up to nurse my baby. I love that it is also multi-functional and can be used as a scarf, nursing cover, stroller cover or shawl.
Reno Rose was inspired by the grace of a ballerina and the movement of pirouettes, Pirose is a revolutionary, multi-way scarf with endless fashion potential. There are more than 12 ways to wear Pirose. It will transform your ordinary outfit into a brand new and fresh look!

What I Learned at the NC Mom Conference

Obviously, we had a wonderful time at Ocean Isle this past weekend but I also learned a few things while we were there. (That's part of the reason we do conferences right?)

There were so many great speakers and great tips but here are just a few of the key points that I found useful. Hopefully you will find them useful too.
  • You don't need to use meta-tags - The ever so smart Lisa Frame (@Daily_Pinch and @Mommyality) gave some amazing SEO tips and said that Google no longer searches meta tags so there is no need to incorporate them into your blog. (I like tips that save me time!)

  • Fewer people are using RSS Feeds - Cord Silverstein (@Cord) said that more people are connecting with blogs via Facebook and Twitter and checking their RSS readers less often. So it's important to meet readers where they are, be sure to connect across all platforms.

  • Content is Key - It was echoed throughout the weekend that you can master SEO and pitching but if you don't have good content no one is going to read your blog. Your posts should be engaging, easy to read and brief.
  • Know your Angle When Pitching a Company for a Review - Be confident. Why do you think your blog is a good fit for the company? What makes you stand out from other blogs? Erin Lane of Scandinavian Child had a ton of great tips about how to pitch companies. She has two great post on her blog about pitching companies that I think are a must read for any review blogger: Inside Marketing the Art of Pitching and Inside Marketing: Securing Product Reviews
Those are only a few of the key points from the NC Mom Blogger Conference.

If you've never been to a blog conference I highly suggest going. There is always so much to learn and so many wonderful people to meet.

NC Mom Blogger Recap

This past weekend I went to the NC Mom Blogger Conference in Ocean Isle, NC.

Reasons I loved the conference:
  • Family Oriented. I love taking my family along.
  • Cost. A major bang for my buck. (room at the beach, meals, great speakers, loads of fun.)
  • At The Beach. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves is awesome!
  • Short Drive. Ocean Isle is only a short 3 hour drive for us.
  • Met some awesome ladies. (the small group allowed for more intimate conversations)
  • Learned some useful information.
  • I won a door prize (2 night stay at Ocean Isle Inn !)
I absolutely loved being able to bring my family along to the conference. While I was in the sessions Joe and Jude went off to explore Ocean Isle and the surrounding towns. They had a lot of fun and occasionally I was able to slip away and join them.

Raisels Review + Giveaway

Jude loves raisins. They are his favorite afternoon snack, well after marshmallows. But I'm much more willing to giving him raisins because they are a much more healthy option than the marshmallows. However, sometimes it's nice to switch things up and give him a little something fun for a snack.
Raisels are a great way to get your kids to eat a healthy snack without them knowing it. Raisels are a new, healthier alternative to candy from the National Raisin Company - a family-owned and operated company. Raisels are fruity flavored raisings and the first 100% real fruit snack that actually tastes like candy. They can be found in your grocer's dried fruit section. They come in four flavors: Sour Apple, Sour Orange, Sour Lemon and Sour Peach. They are rich in antioxidants, fat free cholesterol free and 100% US RDA for Vitamin C. Raisels have NO sodium, high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners.
Raisels were a big hit. Jude could not get enough. He let me try a few and they did in fact taste a lot like candy but they are not actually candy. I love that!

Best Baby Care Hints from Heloise and TheMotherhood

Saturday, February 26, 2011

Thursday afternoon I was a co-host of a wonderful live chat on The Motherhood with Heloise (internationally syndicated columnist, TV personality and author of numerous books, including her latest, Handy Household Hints from Heloise).

The live chat was to help sponsor Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment and the hour just flew by with tons of great questions and conversations from moms all over the country. Here are a few of the top key points that were talked about during the live chat.

Check out these great tips and don't forget to enter the Dr. Smith's giveaway.

1. Dealing  with Kids’ Boo-Boos:

From Heloise: Use a red washcloth, which shows no blood, and tiny frozen fast-food condiment packages as ice packs, remove bandage, without an ouch, by covering first with baby or mineral oil.

From Brandie: Fill cloth bags with flax and lavender. You can put them in the freezer. They feel good on bruises and small injuries and have a nice scent that can be calming.

2. Ways to  Organize Tot’s Things:

From Heloise: Put complete outfits, underpants and all, in a large zipper bag. On the weekend, put together a week’s worth to save stress and time on hectic mornings.

From “Clumberkim”: When you get a new toy, give away, sell or donate an old one to avoid an excess buildup of unused or forgotten toys.

 3. Keeping  Track of Bath Toys:

From Heloise: Corral them with a plastic colander or mesh vegetable bag, which go right into the tub and allows for easy drying.

From “This Mama Loves”: To clean bath toys, put them in a lingerie bag, zip it and put it on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Avoid squirty bath toys or toys with holes, which are harder to clean and sanitize.

4. Maintaining  the Peace During Naptime:

From members of The Motherhood: When the baby is sleeping, put a note on your front door that says, “Do Not Disturb, the baby is napping” to prevent people from ringing the doorbell and waking him or her.

From Heloise: Heloise’s mother, the original Heloise, published this  hint in her newspaper column that she started in 1959 (a true reflection  of the importance and power of women sharing their best ideas).

5. When Heloise invited the community to  share their best advice for new moms, the community overwhelmingly said, trust your instincts and don’t be afraid to come up with your own rules.

Heloise provided a final thought to TheMotherhood.com community at the  end of the talk: “My mother, the original Heloise, started a mom's community back in 1959 with her newspaper column. She told her housewives, ‘I love you, and you're not alone’." And that is exactly what Heloise wanted to leave with moms.

2B Mom: Bebe au Lait Review

Friday, February 25, 2011

I had a very difficult time nursing Jude for the first few months. But I was determined to overcome the challenges that often come with a first time breastfeeding mom. Toward the end of our breastfeeding experience both Jude and I were pros at nursing anywhere discreetly. However, those first few months I needed an easy to use nursing cover to that Jude and I could feel comfortable nursing anywhere.
The Bebe au Lait nursing cover gives you the coverage you need to feed your baby anywhere while still looking stylish. I love all of the beautiful fabric choices available for Bebe au Lait products. I received the Chateau Endive which is a great mix between casual and dressy. I remember many times nursing Jude at wedding receptions, a place you don't want to steal attention. What I really like about the Bebe au Lait nursing cover is the built in terry cloth pocket which allows you to keep important things close at hand. (Any breastfeeding mom will tell once you start breastfeeding you don't want to stop to dig around in your diaper bag.) I also love the rigged neckline which allows you, and only you, to look down and keep an eye on baby while they are eating. I know when I first started breastfeeding I always had to make sure Jude had a good latch.
The Bebe au Lait is a large size which keeps mom covered and can double as a blanket for baby. The D-ring neck strap makes putting on and taking off the cover easy and also simple to adjust. You don't have to take the cover off to switch sides while nursing.

I received the featured product in exchange for my honest opinion. The opinions expressed in this post are my own and not influenced by the company.

My Favorite Songs from Pretty Little Liars Soundtrack

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Music plays a vital role in any television or film product. If you don't believe me try watching a scary movie with no sound... not so scary huh? The soundtrack to the WB's new show, Pretty Little Liars is thoughtful and perfectly placed within the show.
Two of my favorite songs from the soundtrack are Brook Waggoner's "Fresh Pair of Eyes" and "Out of Reach" by Matthew Perryman Jones. Both songs have lyrics that encapsulate the beautiful yet tragic moments in the show. "Fresh Pair of Eyes" has beautifully haunting music accompanied by simple yet heartbreaking lyrics. The lyrics of Matthew Perryman Jones' "Out of Reach" perfectly capture the loss and fears of love and life. The music is somewhat hopeful which is a nice contrast to the introspective lyrics. All of the songs on the Pretty Little Liars soundtrack help set of this mysterious and dark nature of the show.

Featuring songs from singer/songwriters like Colbie Caillat that appeal to indie music lovers, The Pretty Little Liars Soundtrack is a mix of songs that played during pivotal scenes or moments within the hit ABC Family show.

Watch Pretty Little Liars Mondays at 8pm/7c on ABC Family.
Visit iTunes to preview songs and pick up a copy of the album.

I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote the Pretty Little Liars Soundtrack.

Let the Weird Pregnancy Dreams Begin

One of the more interesting side effects of pregnancy is crazy, vivid dreams. Sometimes these dreams can be scary or stressful but most often my pregnancy dreams are just plain weird.

Even when I'm not pregnant I have weird dreams. Pregnancy just adds another dose of crazy. It's like a wild drug trip. (I can only imagine since I've never actually done drugs.)

Recently I've been having dreams about breastfeeding. Like last night I dreamed that I just forgot to breastfeed the baby for a few days and instead fed it solid foods.  Everyone was fine and I just decided it would probably be a good idea to breastfeed my child.

Or another dream I had where I was a well-oiled milk factory. Everything was so easy. The milk just flowed right out. Breastfeeding was a breeze and pumping was even easier. It was so simple and such an awesome dream.

What kind of crazy pregnancy dreams have you had?

Some Girls Dream of Their Wedding Day, I Dream of My House.

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

As a little girl I would spend endless hours drawing house plans, arranging imaginary furniture and "living" in my future house.

Years later I still dream of "my house". We live in a tiny 2 bedroom townhouse that we outgrew pretty much the moment we moved in. We have a tiny fenced in yard (and when I say yard I mean a plot of rocks.), the world's smallest kitchen and absolutely no storage. It is anything but ideal for a family.
my tiny kitchen
the extend of our living space
I dream of space. Space inside for our growing family. Space outside for Jude to run and play. Storage for all of my husband's collections. A kitchen where I can prepare a meal and not use the stove top as a prepping surface. For years it's only been a dream. But the time has come. To Move.

We don't know where we will be moving but we're packing boxes and planning to move the end of March. (Still renting) I'm anxious and excited.

How Would You Spend Brewster's Millions?

Sunday, February 20, 2011

The other night Joe and I watched the 1985 film, Brewster's Million starring Richard Pryor and John Candy. (based on the 1902 novel by George Barr McCutcheon.)

It got me thinking about how I would spend $30 million dollars (if I inherited it) without owning any assets at the end of 30 days.

The rules:
After 30 days, you may not own any assets that are not already yours (cars, land, buildings, jewelry, etc.), and you must get value for the services of anyone you hire. You may donate only 5% to charity and lose 5% by gambling, and you are not allowed to buy expensive goods and destroy or give them away. Finally, you cannot tell anyone about this arrangement.

Goal:
If you spend the $30 million dollars in 30 days and follow all the rules you inherit $300 million.

So how would you spend the $30 million?

2B Mom: Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment Review + Giveaway

Fortunately, Jude hasn't encountered too many diaper rashes and the ones he's had haven't been too bad. I've learned from experience that keeping baby's bottom dry is the firs step in preventing diaper rashes. That means changing dirty diapers ASAP and making sure baby's bottom is dry before putting on a clean diaper. One of the best ways to help heal a sore bottom is to let baby air out. Sometimes, I let Jude run around diaper free for a little bit if his bum is looking a little pink but for real irritations and rashes I turn to Dr. Smith's.
Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment has been helping parents soothe irritated baby bottoms for about 45 years.  Dr. Smith's Goes on like a cream and protects like an ointment, it has no unpleasant odor, is easy to apply and wash off. It is also fast-acting and gentle on baby’s skin.
The people at Dr. Smith's understand mom's needs and work hard to create a community where parents can learn and connect. They sent me a beautiful gift basket filled with goodies for me, baby #2 and of course, plenty of Dr. Smith's diaper ointment.I was very impressed with the thoughtfulness and generosity of the Dr. Smith's gift basket I received, they really do take the time to not only understand how to take care of diaper rashes but also the needs of moms and babies.

2B Mom: Puj Tub Review

One of my favorite memories of newborn Jude was his first bath. We gave him a little bird bath in the bathroom sink. It was a memory I will never forget. While bathing him in the sink was much easier than putting him in the tub it still had it's draw backs. A wet tiny baby is very slippery and sinks were not designed for tiny slippery humans. It was always a 2 person job - 1 to hold the baby and 1 to wash that baby. Using the Puj baby bath tub for sink, your baby is supported in an upright position, allowing you to bathe using both hands--with no help from your spouse!
The Puj Tub is the easiest baby bath tub to set up, take down, and put away. No longer will you wonder, "where do I put this giant plastic tub before and after the baths?" The Puj Tub is a super light baby bath tub that weighs in at less than 1 lb. The super soft flexible material wraps around their delicate body, protecting their skin from any cold surface. Not only does the Puj Baby Bath protect your baby, but it also keeps them insulated and warm. It is even approved by the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

I really love that the Puj Tub is easy to use and store, perfect for a family is a small home like us. We had a big bulky plastic baby tub that fits inside the bathtub and while it made bathing baby easier it took up a ton of room and required me to bend over the side of the tub. Using the Puj Tub out bathroom isn't overcrowded with baby gear and I don't have to put strain on my back to bath baby.

I would recommend the Puj Tub to any new mom!

Buy: your Puj Tub today at Amazon.

25 Weeks

So we finally schedule our first ultrasound. The big day is Thursday, March 3rd. WooHoo!

We still haven't decided yet if we want to know the sex of the baby.
Well, let me clarify.
Joe hasn't decided if he wants to find out the sex of the baby. If he says yes then I'm totally in. If he prefers to wait, I will build my patience and wait a few more weeks. (*I think he'll cave and want to find out)

Assuming we decided to find out the sex AND assuming we decided to tell everyone (That's a lot of assuming) I will reveal our big news here on the blog.

What do you think?

Soft Scrub Total All Purpose Cleaner with Bleach Review + Giveaway

For Valentines day my husband cleaned the entire bathroom. I mean a serious deep clean. I can't tell you how awesome of a present that was. I hate cleaning the bathroom. It is the one chore I put off as much as possible. So when I find a product that can reduce my time cleaning the bathroom I am always willing to give it a try.
softscrub_total_allpurpose
New Soft Scrub Total All Purpose cleaner with Bleach is like time in a bottle; it's unique and powerful bleach formula simplifies cleaning and saves you precious time.  Soft Scrub Total All Purpose Cleaner with Bleach is the first product with a bleach foam that makes it easy to see where it's been sprayed. The Upside-down spraying allows you to get hard-to-reach areas like under the toilet rim. The thick foam clings and penetrates stains and soils and sticks to vertical surfaces. IT is uniquely formulated with bleach to tackle your toughest stains.

I am a little afraid of products with bleach in them but I think they are perfect for cleaning and sanitizing surfaces like in the bathroom. I really like the upside down spray and foam of the Soft Scrub Total All Purpose Cleaner with Bleach. It does work phenomenal and helped me cut down on the amount of scrubbing that was required to clean the bathroom.
