Near East Party!

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Last week I had the pleasure of hosting a Near East In-Home Party. It was a wonderful evening full of delicious fun, friends and fun. My group of friends decide to have a potluck dinner where everyone bought a different Mediterranean inspired dish. We had a wonderful smorgasbord of food everything from Italian to Greek.
We had a variety of hummus, tzatziki and pita for starters. Then a main course of couscous, greek salad, mujadara, mousaka, greek chicken and of course greek ice cream for dessert. (ok it was regular ice cream but we had to come up with a fancy name for it.)
Everyone really enjoyed sharing recipes. We learned about different ways to prepare and jazz up traditional dishes that we typically make. Everyone also liked the party favors which included a box of Near East Parmesan Couscous, Trivet, coupons and recipes.
Andrea from Lil-Kid-Things loves her goody bag.
About Near East
Near East started in 1962 in Worcester, MA as a mall, family-owned company. George and Hannah Kalajian immigrated from Armenia to the United States and set up a grocery store in 1940. Soon after the store opened, Hannah began serving sandwiches and home-cooked hot meals at a twelve-stool luncheonette counter adjoining the grocery store. Demand rapidly increased for Hannah's tradition roasted chicken and Armenian-style rice pilaf so she began to package it. Over the year, production moved out of Hannah's kitchen and into modern manufacturing facilities. Today, the Near East family of products includes more than 30 different flavors and varieties of rice pilafs, couscous, and other grain dishes.

Not the Hippopotamus

For some strange reason I started calling Jude, "Judeapotamus". He has no hippo like qualities whatsoever. I guess it's just one of those silly names that developed.  I should probably stop calling him a hippo so he doesn't have any self esteem issues later in life but it's so darn cute and catchy.
So catchy in fact that one night Joe tried giving me a similar nickname. Immediately, he knew it was no good but it was out there. No take backs. Granted, "Sexapotamus" is one of the better ways he could have gone but it's still not great. Fortunate for him I have a good sense of humor and took no offense to my new nickname. In fact, we both thought it was pretty funny it's become a bit of a joke.

So far I don't think we've ever used it publicly else strangers might think we're weird. Uh... hello strangers.

High Drama 2 - Defining Roles

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

In high school I participate in several extra curricular activities. All of them were wonderful fun and helped shape who I am today. But in particular I think my favorite would be the Yearbook. It started as a fun outlet for my creativity and organizational skill and eventually I was the editor of the Yearbook. Being the editor of the yearbook taught me so much about the way that I lead and learn.

I never realized that one extra class in high school would direct the rest of my career path. I ultimately chose to attend a college based on the fact that I wanted to be a magazine editor. During college I change direction a bit and moved into a new media, Television. After college I continued in television with a bit of print design on the side and now as a stay-at-home-mom all of the basic principals I learned from Yearbook helped me create this blog.

I really like watching the crew members in High Drama 2 because I can totally relate to their dedication and craftsmanship. I'm sure several of those kids will go on to use many of this skills they learned from this production in their career. Watch the newest episodes of "High Drama 2" on TheWB.com.

"High Drama 2" is an original web series, view it now on TheWB.com.

I have been hired by Warner Bros WBWord to raise awareness for 'High Drama 2.

Blogger of the Week: This, That & T'other

Today's featured blogger is Bethany from This, That, & T’other

How old is your blog or long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since a little before my husband and I got married. We started our blog on April 2, 2007, and were married 19 days later.

What made you choose the name of your blog?
When I was young, sometimes I’d ask my dad what he was doing. He would say, “Oh, this, that, and t’other.” When I was trying to think of a name for a blog with miscellaneous content, that is what came to mind.

Why do you blog and what do you love about blogging?
I blog because it allows me to have a creative outlet, a reason to write, and friends with whom I can share my talents.

What are a few of your favorite posts on your blog?
I have bunches of favorites. First, let me introduce myself.
I love to write. Here are some of the things I’ve written about.

I like baking and cooking. Some of my go-to recipes are:

And I enjoy making crafty things like these.

You’ll also find fun things my students say, menu plans, family life, photography and lots of other fun stuff.

Are you married? If so, how long?
I have been married for almost three years to Jason, an amazing man with lots of talents.

Do you have children? If so, how many?
Not yet, but I would love to in the near future.

What is your favorite movie?
I love the movie Fireproof.

Who is your favorite actor?
I don’t know that I really have one.

What is your favorite band or musician?
I love the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

What is your favorite food?
Does chocolate milk count? If not, definitely broccoli with cheese sauce.

What is your favorite candy?
Hmmm. . . I don’t really eat candy that much. If I had to choose, it would be either Butterfingers or Andes mints.

What else should readers know about you?
I’d love to have you stop by and visit! If you take the time to comment, I’ll make sure to visit you as well! Have a fantabulous day!

This That N T’other

2nd Birthday Bash: Nifty Nappy Review

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Summer is here and that means lots of swimming. We use cloth diapers so when we go to the pool I don't want to use a disposable swim diaper. The primary goal of the swim diaper is to keep the solid waste out of the pool.
Nifty Nappy Snappy SwimzEaze diapers are not only great at doing their swim diaper duties (hehe) but they are super cute. No need for a suit to cover up these adorable designs. The Snappy SwimzEaze diaper is easy to put on the excited-to-go-swimming toddler and easy to remove when soaking wet.
We received the Safari Knit diaper and it is adorable. I really do love having a swim diaper rather than using a disposable. Nifty Nappy has a great selection of fabrics and size so you can pick the perfect diaper for you little one.
About Nifty Nappy
Vilate Thacker has spent countless hours online researching cloth diapers, along with years of testing different patterns and fabrics out on her own 6 kids. She finally found the right fabrics and with all the knowledge she had acquired, she started on a diaper and Nifty Nappy was born. Nifty Nappy offers wool covers,PeachyKeen pocket diapers and Snappy SwimzEaze swim diapers.

2nd Birthday Bash: Little Grips Review

Monday, June 21, 2010

Turning two means a lot of growing up for my little guy. Jude loves to eat and often gets frustrated with traditional forks and spoons when he's hungry. He attempts to use them for about 15 seconds and as soon as the food falls off he just digs in with his hands. I don't mind him eating with his hands but it usually means major clean up. And eventually, I'd like to have a civilized child that uses utensils.
We received Little Grips and he was immediately enthralled with these new eating tools. He attempted to use the Little Grips long than traditional forks and spoons but did eventual revert to using his hands. I think he was just used to eating with his hand. Since his first encounter he's used Little Grips more regularly and shows improvement in his hand to mouth feeding skills. The Little Grips handles fit comfortably in his tiny hands and make it easy for him to guide the food to his mouth.

About Little Grips
Little Grips toddler utensils make toddler feeding-time easy and enjoyable for you and your child. Feeding is made easy with a larger no-choke safety handle that fits easily in the palm of your child's hands and allows them to use their arms and wrists for better control. Other utensils require finer finger controls that are still undeveloped, creating a frustrating experience for your child.

The Drama of High Drama 2

High school has plenty of drama on it's own but add it the drama of the theater and you've got yourself a real life soap opera. "High Drama 2" follows the theater company of Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as they put on their best show yet: The Wizard of Oz. "High Drama 2" is an original web series only available on TheWB.com.

I love that the episode explore the real life problems that come with teenagers involved in high school drama. My favorite episode is "The Read-Through" where two of cast members have to deal with not getting the roles they hoped for. I liked watching Leanne work through her frustration only to learn that she had misunderstood her role and end the end was happy to be participating in sometime she truly loved.  Watching how teens overcome disappointment and learn to accept what comes along is entertaining and an opportunity to watch kids grow-up.

Watch: The Newest Episode of High Drama 2 on TheWB.com

I have been hired by Warner Bros WBWord division to raise awareness for 'High Drama 2.

Whish Body Products Review

Every womans wants to feel pampered and pretty. I know I love getting new beauty products, epsecially if they smell good. But a lot of times those products contain harmful chemicals that aren't so good for your skin. Whish Body Products offer that great smelling and pretty feeling with out any harmful chemicals.
I received the Pomegranate Three Wishes Sugar Scrub which is just wonderful. I love pomegranates, they are one of my all time favorite fruits and they offer a wonderful natural scent to the scrub. Pomegrantes also contain wonderful antioxidants which refresh your skin. Also, with summer's official start on Monday an exfoliating sugar scrub is just what I need. Often times exfoliating scrubs can be a bit too abrasive for my skin but the Whish Sugar Scrub offers just the right about of rough and smooth conditioning to my skin.

Sarah McLachlan - "Laws of Illusion" Review

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

I have always enjoyed listening to Sarah McLachlan's songs. Her voice moves you and the words to her lyrics inspire passion. I was anxiously awaiting the release of her newest album, Laws of Illusion as it's been many years since she's released a new album. After all the years of anticipation I was not let down by Laws of Illusion
The beauty of her voice and the passion in her songs is still there and even more inspiring. Laws of Illusion offers a great variety of upbeat pop songs and poetic lyrics. I love the piano-based song, "Loving You Is Easy". And the lyrics of "Illusions of Bliss" are a wonderful contrast to the poppy music that accompanies it. Can't go to Italy? Buy a Beautiful Venetian Mask Instead.

Joe has been to Italy, but I never have. He agreed to take me there one day, but that day won't be for awhile. So in the mean time I'll have to settle for everything else Italian, like a beautiful Venetian Carnival Mask from 1001 Venetian Masks.

Venetian Carnival Masks have been a part of Italian culture for literally hundreds of year.  Venetians adopted the custom of being masked so that citizens could move freely in society during the day. Noblemen and servants alike used Masquerade Masks and Venetian Masks to keep their identities hidden and their dealings – mostly of a financial or romantic nature - unknown. Eventually the mask designs became more elaborate and were use for balls and celebrations like the Venice Carnival. The Venice Carnival is the most internationally known festival celebrated in Venice, Italy, as well as being one of the oldest. The streets of Venice Carnival were full of people in masks, and no differentiation could be made between nobility and the common people. Today people come from all over the world to join in the festivities and wear elaborate costumes and beautiful masks.

Venetian Masks come in a variety of styles like Venetian Stick Masks, Bauta masks, Colombina and Medico Della Peste. 1001 Venetian Masks offer a great selection of masks for any style or occasion and all of their masks are 100% authentic and made by Master Artisans.

My favorite mask is the Incas Arlecchino Green Tiger Feathers, I love the rich green feathers and the gold and green detailing around the eyes. I don't know when I'll make it to Italy but in the meantime I can decorate my home with these beautiful masks in hopes that one day I will join the masses at Carnival!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of 1001 Venetian Masks. All opinions are 100% mine.

RDU Tennis - Clinics, Camps and more!

I have never played tennis. Well, I've played tennis but never have never known what I was doing. Growing up I loved playing any outdoor sport but I guess tennis never made it into my schedule. Now as an adult I would love to learn how to play tennis. RDU Tennis offers great tennis programs for all ages. I think I may need to try out their adult clinic and finally learn how to play tennis.

I particularly love that RDU Tennis offers tennis camps for children. When Jude gets a bit older I will definitely be signing him up for tennis camp. They offer a fun environment for kids to learn how to play tennis and play well with each other. Many of their locations offer tennis and swim camp which gives kids the opportunity to beat the heat after a fun game of tennis in the pool.

Watch this brief video to learn more about the adult and child tennis opportunities with RDU Tennis.

What made you choose the name of your blog? It is a combination of my last name and the fact that I have a bunch of kids. We are often referred to as "The Brady Bunch".

Why do you blog and what do you love about blogging? Before I started blogging, I would follow others' blogs to learn about new products and to enter giveaways. I started my own blog to connect with those I followed. I wanted to be a part of the blogging community. I love blogging to let other know of deals and products I have found. I also love the reviews and giveaways I partake in. The best part is the online friendships that are formed.

Are you married?† If so, how long? I have been married three times, twice to the same man! (not recommended). I have been married to my current husband for 7 1/2 years.

Do you have children?† If so, how many? I have three children of my own, two boys and a girl, and three step-daughters. The children are 16, 15, 11, 10, 9, and 7 years of age.

What is your favorite movie? War of the Worlds (the newer one)

What is your favorite band or musician? I don't fall into any one particular genre. I wish there was a radio station that played rock, alternative, rap, bluegrass, and mixed in all the others. I want variety!

What is your favorite food? Cooked broccoli, crab rangoon, and corn casserole are just a few of my faves.

What is your favorite candy? Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate...of any kind.

What else should readers know about you? I am continually working on my blog to improve, while still keeping it true to who I am. I'd love for you to stop by and check it out.
