Help a Family Adopt

Saturday, February 27, 2010

This great family needs your help to adopt a sweet little baby. They have a heart for children that need to be adopted and are a wonderful family. Any baby would be wonderfully blessed to have them as parents.

Pass this along to anyone you know. Feel free to re-post this blog.

New Design - What a glass of sweet tea does to me.

You may notice things look a little different around here. Well, I drank sweet tea with my dinner last night and was awake until after 2am. (I don't drink coffee, soda or really any caffeinated drink so a glass of sweet tea is powerful stuff in my body.) Well I decided I wanted to lighten up my blog especially since it's spring, so I did a little redesign.

The header image has a neat history. This is the image is from my wedding RSVP card and I absolutely love it. All of our wedding announcement and printed materials were designed by our extremely talented friend, Matt Gauck. Those are little cartoon characters of me and Joe.

I know it's not much a bee theme but I'm not a big fan of yellow so I figured I'd go another direction. I love blue and brown so that's what we've got.

Blogger of the Week: I Have A Coupon For That!

Today's featured blogger is Jaime from I Have A Coupon For That!

How old is your blog or long have you been blogging?
I have been an occasional blogger since August 2009, and started daily blogging in January.

What do you blog about?
I blog about saving money, time and sanity. Sometimes I throw in some crafts, sometimes some fun family things. Whatever I feel like.

What made you choose the name of your blog?
My husband picked it. He said that I say that a hundred times when we go grocery shopping. I’m not afraid to yell it down the aisle either!

Why do you blog and what do you love about blogging?
I like letting others know about the good deals, or the cool new products!

What are a few of your favorite posts on your blog?

Are you married?  If so, how long?
Yes, I am married. We have been married for 2 ½ years

Do you have children?  If so, how many?
I have two boys. A 1 year old, Blue Eyes, and a 2 year old, Mr. Destructo.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite food… Burger King. I know that isn’t a “food” but I love their Whoppers, even though I don’t eat the hamburger patty. I know, it’s weird.

What is your favorite candy?
I LOVE Ferroro Rocher chocolates!

What else should readers know about you?
I love photography! I loved working in a studio before I had kids. My photos are being published in a children’s book and it should come out this summer!

Recipe: Crock Pot Chicken Curry

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Ok so a couple people have asked for this recipe and it's super simple.

Ingredients (this feeds my family of 3 with left overs)

2 Chicken Breasts Cubed
1 Jar Curry Sauce (I like Trader Joe's or Patak's)
Pineapple (1 can or fresh)
1 Onion Diced
2 Sweet Potatoes cut into large chunks (about 1" square)

Method 1 (super easy)
Put everything in the crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours

Method 2 (still easy)
Add Chicken, Sauce and Onion to crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours
After 3 hours add sweet potatoes
With 1 hour left add pineapples

Method one results has mushier sweet potatoes and pineapple but still delicious!

Serve with rice!

The Search for Sensitive Baby Soap

This picture creeps me out.

My son is almost 2 years old and we've yet to find a soap that doesn't irritate his skin. Most often I bathe him without using any soap at all but occasionally he needs soap. After trying many different brands and wasting a lot of money I thought I would reach out to my readers for advice .

Here is a list of products we've tried: (we prefer a natural soap if possible)
Burts Bees
California Baby
Aveeno
Weleda
Erbaviva
Arbonne (although this one was confiscated by the TSA so I only used it twice.)
I can't remember the other right now.

Does your child have sensitive skin? If so which product do you recommend?

ecoTOOLS Review

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

I'm not a natural when it comes to make-up. I usually apply too little make-up or use the wrong tools to apply my make-up. Well, I'm excited about the new ecoTOOLs 6 piece Eye Brush Set and Bronzer Brush because each tool tells you exactly how to use it. Printed on the handle of each brush is a descriptive name for each brush like, "shade" or "highlight". This is such a great help when I apply my make-up. I'm not using the wrong size or shape brush to apply my make-up.

In addition to these great new brushes ecoTOOLS has created several make-up tutorials to teach you how to get the great looks you see in magazine.

About ecoTOOLS
Paris Presents Incorporated first launched ecoTOOLS in April of 2008 which has since become the leader in green personal care products. The entire collection of cosmetic brushed, bath, brow and nail accessories, and bath + body products features innovative, earth-friendly materials, such as: bamboo; recycled plastic, steel and aluminum; soybean oil, and crushed walnuts.

Buy: ecoTOOLs are available at these retailers.

The featured product was provided to me free of charge by ecoTOOLS. The opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced by the company.

Tot School: Week 1 Day 1 - Superheros

Tot School
Today we started Tot School. I'm starting small with 5 minutes a day dedicated to Tot School. This week we are focusing on Superheros. And what better way to start than with Star Wars. After breakfast we broke out a coloring book and some crayons and colored.

He like using the crayons to color but also like trying to eat them. He laughed every time he put the crayon to his mouth and I said "yucky". We focused on coloring with green and red.
After a few minutes of coloring he enjoyed putting away the crayons and taking them back out. And putting them away. And taking them out. And putting them away. (you get the point.)

Tot School

Tot School
During my blog browsing I came across Toddler Awesome who was participating in Tot School. Since Jude is so active I never thought it would be possible to get Jude to participate in crafts and other learning activities so I never really tried. But with the help of Tot School I think I can find suitable crafts and activities for a kid like Jude.

Tot School is a focused time each day on the tot in your family. So with the assistance of a few great mommies and their blogs I've decided to give it a try. Toddler Awesome has organized theme weeks for her son and I thought this was a great idea so I did the same.

Here are my theme weeks for the next few months:
Feb 12/ Superheros
Feb 28/ Family
Mar 7/ Day and Night
Mar 14/ St. Patrick's Day
Mar 21/ Spring
Mar 28/ Easter
Apr 4/ Farm Animals
Apr 11/ Space
Apr 18/ Earth (Earth Day Apr 22)
Apr 25/ Water
May 2/ Moms (Mother's Day May 9)
May 9/ Friends
May 16/ Colors
May 23/ Dinosaurs
May 30/ Bodies
June 6/ Faces and Feelings
June 13/ Dads (Father's Day June 20)
June 20/ Birthdays (Jude's B-day June 27)
June 27/ Letters

I hope to incorporate our membership to the Museum of Life and Science for some of these. Now I need to plan out crafts and activities for these weeks. I'm pretty exited that Jude is now getting to an age where we can work on things together.

I plan on documenting some of the activities and crafts we do each week.

Soft Scrub Total Review

Cleaning the bathroom is my least favorite chore of all time. Any product or tool that can make bathroom cleaning quicker and simpler is OK in my book. I cleaned my half bath in less than 5 minutes time with new Soft Scrub Total Bath and Bowl. Finally someone addressed the need to use a spray bottle upside down. I don't know how it works but I'm glad that it does. also you can switch between spray and foam. Awesome!

I will admit it took me about 5 minutes to figure how to get the spray to come out. I was having a mommy moment and totally forgot about the on/off feature. You know the one that keeps you from spraying yourself in the face. User Fail. Aside from my incompetence this stuff is great!

About Soft Scrub Total
Replace your arsenal of cleaning products with Soft Scrub® Total Bath & Bowl cleanser, the one product that is powerful enough to clean and deodorize your entire bathroom. The patented trigger allows you to easily switch from a fine mist to a thick foam and even sprays upside down. The unique angle-neck bottle helps you get into those hard to reach places like the inside of the toilet bowl.

Blogger of the Week: Somewhat Simple

Today's Blogger is Stephanie from Somewhat Simple

How old is your blog or long have you been blogging? Been blogging for years, but just launched Somewhat Simple in July 2009

What made you choose the name of your blog? After racking my brain for months about this and coming up with a ton of possibilities, I finally just said out loud, “I just want a name that is somewhat simple!” … and so that’s what I named it!

Why do you blog and what do you love about blogging? It started as just a journal to someday show my kids the fun things we made together and the creative side of me that maybe they wouldn’t realize I had. It has since turned into much more and has become the place I share all things creative. Its my escape from the ever-growing pile of laundry that I despise more than anything else in the world!

What are a few of your favorite posts on your blog?
Do you have children?  3

What is your favorite movie? The Proposal

What is your favorite food? Anything Mexican- I live for tacos and salsa!

What is your favorite candy? Snicker Bar

What else should readers know about you? Here is a little write-up I did that might have some fun facts.

The B Keeps Us Honest will feature a new Blogger of The Week each Saturday. If you would like to be featured please contact me.

Thoughts on Losing

Friday, February 19, 2010

So you may have noticed my big campaign over the past few days for the photo contest. Well it appears that we probably won't take home 1st place but I'm learning to be OK with that. I don't like losing but I also will NOT cheat. I will ask everyone I know and even offer them incentives to vote for me but I WILL NOT falsify votes. (And believe me I have more than the capability to vote as many times as I like.) I also feel horrible that the other contests thought we were cheating since I offered incentives on my other blog. (That's how contests work in the blogging community and I didn't realize the other contestants would perceive it has bribary.)

Joe and I do not have any additional money to spend on the expenses that would be involved in taking home 2nd or 3rd place so I'm not sure what we'll do with those winnings. But I'd rather have a clear conscious than get a free photo shoot unethically. But I know that every time I would look at my beautifully framed portrait I'd think about how I cheated.

Anyway, this post is mostly to remind myself that it's ok to come in 2nd or 3rd place.

NaturOli Extreme 18X Review

Saturday, February 13, 2010

A few weeks ago I reviewed NaturOli Soap Nuts and was extremely happy with the results.
NaturOli offers another great product as convenient and effective as soap nuts, Extreme 18X liquid detergent.

It only takes 1 teaspoon of Extreme18X to wash a whole load of laundry. A small 8oz bottle yields 96 glorious loads of laundry which means no more giant jugs of detergent crowding my laundry room. My laundry not only smells fresh and clean but it's safer for baby clothes. I also love that Extreme 18X is better for environment than the chemical commercial detergents.

You can also dilute a bit with water in a spray bottle for a gentle yet powerful all-purpose household cleaner.

About Extreme 18X Liquid Detergent.
Extreme 18X liquid detergent is liquid form of Soap Nuts. Extreme 18X is produced from truly natural cosmetic grade pure soap nuts (saponin) liquid extract to ensure maximum quality and effectiveness. It is derived from only premium Sapindus Mukorossi soap nuts.

B Mine: Epson Artisan 810 All-in-One Review

Friday, February 12, 2010

When I got my computer, about 5 years ago, there was a free printer that came along for the ride. Not having a printer at the time I thought I was hot stuff. However, I soon learned that not all printers are built the same. The Epson Artisan 810 All-in-One Printer is definitely a major upgrade!
Here are a few of the key features that I will most certainly be using a lot:

Wi-Fi
I was particularly excited that the Artisan 810 has built-in Wi-Fi networking capability which allows us to print from any computer in the house. Joe set up all the networking stuff and was soon printing messages to me from the bathroom.

Documents
I wanted to see how well the Artisan could handle large document, especially double-sided documents. It just so happens that Joe had a large study guide he needed to print and what initially was a 171 page document ended up being only 85 pages.

My husband also won some extra brownies points this Valentine's Day weekend by printing me a copy of his personal vows from our wedding.

Photos
The Artisan 810 completely blew me away with it's photo printing skills. I printed both a 4x6 and 8x10 image and not only were they great quality but it took no time for them to print.

Final Thoughts

The Artisan 810 has the cabability to copy, scan, fax, create coloring pages, print from your iPhone, charge your cell phone or MP3 player, print on CDs and so much more.
I'm highly impressed with this machine and would definetly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a new printer/fax/scanner/copier/awesome-office-equipment.

Price: $299.99 - Great deal for such a versatile piece of equipment.

Candy is great for any holiday, especially Valentine's Day.  Hershey has a great selection of Valentine's Day candy that anyone will love. We were sent the Hershey's POT OF GOLD Pecan Caramel Clusters Heart Box to review. Man I love some Pecan Carmel Clusters.

Date Night - A definition

What qualifies a date?
As Valentine's Day approaches I've been asking myself what it really means to date your spouse. Before you got married dates were pretty obvious. But after getting married and starting a family the line starts to get a little fuzzy.

We would all agree that leaving the kids at home and going to dinner is obviously a date. But what if you're like us and don't have the money to go out to dinner much less hire a babysitter. That's when you have to get creative.

Joe and I go on a lot of "dates" which consist of sitting on the couch watching a movie, playing a board game or just talking after Jude has gone to bed. Even when he works long days, has class, tutors, has band practice and other obligations he will stay up late just to spend time with me. It could be bed cuddles just before bed where we talk about or day, stress and dreams. I think the key is being intentional.

One day I'd like to have money to go out to dinner, just the two of us but that day appears to be a long way off. So for this Valentine's day we'll be eating a big lunch between all 4 church services while the baby sleeps.

B Mine: Toddland Review

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Real men have facial hair.
My husband sports a stylish beard and is constantly admiring of others with great facial hair. So it was only logical that I get him the Toddland Manstache Wallet. Joe loves having a reminder of his facial hair awesomeness every time he gets pulled over or buys something. But don't worry if your husband isn't fortunate enough to sport a killer beard or mustache the Manstache wallet comes with a stache sticker he can place on his ID picture so he can be cool like all the other guys. Incognito is neato.
toddland had a lot of gray wallets laying around. then they went through puberty.
and that little mustache sticker is for the clear window when you put your id in it. why spend all that time growing an awesome stache when you can just sticker one on?
printed vinyl wallet. comes with running couple insert card, certificate of awesometicity, and a 20% tip card from the toddland department of non-stingy tipping. card slots and clear idea window. 100% vinyl. one size fits most. unless you have tiny pockets. then good for you!
Toddland has a great selection of products I'm sure your husband would love this Valentine's Day.
