Summer is going to be super cute with Just Ducky Originals

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

I would never wearing matching outfits with anyone but I don't even think twice when it comes to putting the boys in matching outfits. It's just too cute at this age. Plus, Jude thinks it's super cool to match with his brother. (I know this is a small window of opportunity so I'm taking it and milking it for all it's worth.)
I love seersucker and i love whales so I'm absolutely in love with the whale print from the spring line of Just Ducky Originals.
Just Ducky Originals lets you customize the clothes for you kids. You can select the style, fabric and even add a design or trim. Even if you aren't a fashion designer there are a lot of cute pre-designed outfits to choose from.
Honestly, I wasn't sure if Just Ducky Originals would have much for boys since the style lends itself to being more girly. But I was pleased to find a few really cute boy outfits that I would buy for my boys. I think Just Ducky Originals would be perfect for Easter. It's pretty much exactly what I imagine for Easter Egg Hunts. I can't wait till Noah is a little bigger and the weather is a little warmer and the boys can wear their matching outfits.

Star Wars and Elvis T-shirt for Joe #giveaway

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

My Star Wars buff husband, Joe would wear a Star Wars t-shirt every day if he could. But with his current job he is supposed to dress business casual. He does on occasion slip a fun white t-shirt under his dress shirts. Like his new Elivis Meets Vader T-shirt from Headline Shirts.
Taken from the classic shot of Elvis shaking hands with Nixon, Vader is now greeting Elvis. No doubt that Darth Vader is trying to persuade Elvis to come to the dark side. Joe loves wearing this shirt obviously because it's go Darth Vader on it but also because it's pretty funny.
He really wanted the Double Solo Warhol shirt because it's just awesome but it wasn't available at the time. Guess we'll just have to order it later.

Let's Compare Our Children

Monday, January 30, 2012

Your Child:
6 months old
Weighs 18lbs
Wears a Size 12mo clothes
Has 4 teeth
Sleeps 6 hours at night
Rolls Over and Can Sit up

My Child
7 months old
Weighs 120lbs
Wears a size 32 x 32 pants
Studying Dentistry at UNC
Sleeps 12 hours at night and when he wakes up makes breakfast and serves it to me in bed.
Training to run the Boston Marathon and Climb Mt. Everest.

In all fairness none of those things about my child are true, except he is 7 months old.

The other day I was reading Andrea's blog post, If You Want To Time Travel, Have a Baby. Andrea's baby, Calvin, in one month younger than Noah so I love to read the updates on his milestones and growth. And often time I compare Noah's development to Calvin's. But you know what Noah and Calvin are completely different babies. While Calvin is a master of eating solid foods Noah is Mr. Picky and only eats breast milk. Yet Noah has been rolling over for months and Calvin is just getting the hang of this crazy rolling business. And you know what I realized? Both of these babies are 100% on track to be awesome little dudes.

I also realized that I compare my children to other kids to validate my parenting.
Ouch.
Like there is some way I can force Noah to crawl sooner or grow taller. Noah is right on track with Noah's developmental plan.
Fact: If my child excels in one area of his development it probably has little to nothing to do with me.

My job as mom is to provide a safe and encouraging environment so my children can grow and develop into the best versions of themselves they can be. The. End.

My friend Paige said it best,
"I ask myself 3 questions...
Is my child safe?
Are they fed?
Do they have on relatively clean pants?
If I can answer yes to all 3, A+ mom!"

So I'm going to stop comparing my kid to yours. But I'll still read updates about how fat your baby is or what their coolest new trick is because childhood development completely fascinates me.

Good-Bye Great Gran-pap

This is my great grandfather, Thomas Green.
He passed away yesterday.
He was 101 years old. (Would have been 102 this year.)

He came to America from Scotland when he was 10 years old.
He had a full and amazing life.
I feel very honored that I was able to know him, hear his stories and be a part of his family.

We love you and will miss you Gran-pap.

Are You Getting Enough Whole Grain #Giveaway

Saturday, January 28, 2012

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That is what "they" say. I'm not sure who "they" are but "they" are probably right. I used to skip breakfast every day and by lunch time I was starving and would eat anything I could get my hands on. But now that I have kids I make myself eat breakfast. I mean I need all the energy I can get to keep up with these guys.

I don't often have time to cook a full breakfast but I do try to feed my family right and opt for the healthier choices. But who wants to put wheat germ on their Cheerios? I know I don't because my mom used to make us do that every day when I was little. So I opt to feed my family General Mills Whole Grain Cereals.
The Dietary Guidelines recommend people get at least 48 grams of whole grain in their daily diets. But identifying whole grain products can be challenging. Dr. Travis Stork, emergency room physician and host of "The Doctors", explains how to read the list of ingredients to know weather or not your are eating whole grains. Ingredient Lists detail ingredients in order of prevalence. So if "Whole Grain" is before other grains like wheat or oats it means the food contains more whole grain than any other single ingredient.

General Mills makes it even easier for you to identify their products that contain Whole Grain by including a white check mark on the box. Make a commitment to add more whole grain to your diet by simply pouring a bowl of cereal with the white check including Cheerios®, Lucky Charms®, Cinnamon Toast Crunch®, Honey Nut Cheerios® and Total®

So every morning while Jude eat his, "cereal and Cheerios" I feel confident knowing he's getting whole grains in his diet.

All I Want is Quiet

Jude has reached the point of no silence.
He's constantly talking, singing or humming.
I crave silence. My inner being longs for quiet. Yet I rarely experience this beautiful thing called silence.
I can't concentrate. I sit down to write a blog post and the wall of sound that hits be from behind obliterates any cohesive thoughts I may have joined together.
I just want a few moments of quiet. Time to gather my thoughts. Process all of the information my mind has aimlessly flying around.
To sit still. In silence. Oh how refreshing that sounds.
The sound of silence.
It's really not a lot I'm asking for.
All I want is quiet!
